Paid survey sites have been an easy way for people to make extra cash for years, but there are other get-paid-to (GPT) platforms that offer something a little different, and one of those platforms is SmartPanel.
The question is, can you trust SmartPanel and can you actually use it to make money? Or is it just another scam among the many GPT websites and apps out there ripping people off?
This Smart Panel review answers these questions by looking into what Smart Panel is, how it works, and more.
About Smart Panel
Smart Panel is a subsidiary of Verto Analytics, a New York-based company. The platform launched in 2014, which makes it newer than most GPT platforms. Of course, this doesn’t make it any less useful for earning extra cash.
SmartPanel is used for gathering consumer insights, especially regarding how consumers use the internet. It’s available as an app, which you will install on your mobile device or computer.
Once installed, the app will monitor your online activity and send the data to Verto Analytics. In exchange for giving Smart Panel a peek into your use of the internet, you’ll receive credit points, which you’ll be able to redeem as cash.
While monitoring your internet use, the SmartPanel app will focus on what pages you visit, how long you spend on them, which ads you click, and which ads you ignore.
To you, this information might mean nothing, but to Smart Panel and its clients, it’s a treasure trove that helps them create more effective advertising and marketing strategies.
Letting Smart Panel monitor your internet use and behavior isn’t the only way to earn with the app. It’s not hard to see from Smart Panel app reviews that the app gives you access to other money-making opportunities like online surveys, focus groups, product testing, and more.
So, if you are looking for an app that lets you earn money for doing very little (taking surveys) or doing nothing (just installing the app), Smart Panel may not be a bad option.
If you’re worried about the app monitoring your internet use being invasive, Smart Panel claims that all data is gathered anonymously. That is, your IP address or other information will not be attached to the data retrieved from your device. This makes it difficult to identify whose device what data originated from.
I don’t know how valid this claim is, but it’s not impossible.
Also, unlike other GPT platforms that can only be accessed by US residents, Smart Panel is accessible to people in Germany, China, and a host of other eligible countries. Chances are you live in an eligible country and can make money by joining Smart Panel.
That brings us to the question: is the platform and its promises of cash rewards for real?
Our Smart Panel app review answers this by looking into how it works.
How Does the Site Work?
Verto Analytics designed Smart Panel to acquire anonymous data from consumers. With this data, the company learns the online behaviors of consumers and develops marketing strategies that work best on such consumers.
What makes the Smart Panel app unique is that unlike other apps of this kind, the app runs in the background of the devices it’s installed on. If you install the app, you don’t have to interact with it in any way because the app does all the data gathering while you use your device like you normally would.
In exchange for installing the app and letting it run on your device, you get paid.
Aside from installing the app, you can also earn money with Smart Panel by taking paid surveys and engaging in product testing, like in Bzz Agent. You can participate in either of these or both if you’d like to maximize your Smart Panel earnings.
The Smart app is free to download and use, but you can only get it from the Smart Panel website if you’re over 18 and live in the US, the UK, China, India, Canada, or Germany.
Aside from your location and age, you may not qualify to download and use the app if you don’t fall under a demographic that Smart Panel is interested in. The panel will verify your demographics by having you take an easy three-minute survey.
If the information provided in the survey places you in the demographics the panel is interested in, you’ll be allowed to download the app from its website and install it on all your devices. The more devices you install the app on, the more you can earn, and the quicker you can cash out.
Unlike other GPT platforms that limit rewards to gift cards, Smart Panel lets you redeem your earned points as cash via PayPal. If you prefer, you can also redeem your points as Amazon gift cards.
Some SmartPanel members claim that making more than $10 a month is possible if you install the app on more than two devices.
Is this true?
Smartpanel reviews reveal that you can earn the following:
- $5 signup bonus. You get this for qualifying for the SmartPanel program.
- You get $10 for every device you install the app on within your first week of joining.
- After the first week, you get $5 for each device you add each month.
So, earning $10 or more for simply installing the app isn’t impossible. That’s a pretty impressive reward for something so simple.
To avoid losing your earnings, you have to ensure that the app is functioning correctly on all the devices you install it on. If an app stops functioning on a device, your reward won’t be sent to your account.
The app has to be installed and running on your devices for at least 30 days before you can receive rewards. This can be a bother since you won’t know if the app is or isn’t working until you check on it. A single interruption of the app’s functioning can jeopardize that month’s earnings.
As we earlier mentioned, you can also take paid online surveys to earn money. If there’s a survey that you are qualified to take, you will receive an invite via email and the app. How much you can earn per survey will depend on the length and complexity of the survey.
The surveys aren’t frequent, but they can be worth it when they show up. Payments for surveys are redeemable via PayPal or check in the mail. You will be informed about how you’ll be paid for a survey in the survey’s invite.
There are also surveys that don’t pay cash. Instead, your reward will be an opportunity to participate in prize drawings. You can’t participate in these drawings unless you’ve been invited to a prize-based survey and completed it.
You can get one to three prize-based survey invitations each month. The prize is usually some kind of home electronics or appliance. I’m really looking forward to winning the big screen TV.
Smart Panel likes to keep its members motivated, and its loyalty bonus program does that well. If you use the app for three months straight, you get a $5 bonus. If the app runs non-stop for six months, you get $10, and another $10 for every quarter after that.
The app has the potential to earn you extra cash monthly, but this Smart Panel review is yet to address the big question – is Smart Panel legit?
Is the Site Legit?
Look at Smart Panel reviews and user feedback, and you’ll see that there are mixed reactions regarding the app’s legitimacy.
Lots of people have made money using the app, but same as with every other paid survey app, some users got stiffed. None the less, since more people got paid than those who didn’t, it’s safe to say Smart Panel is legit.
Further proof of its legitimacy is clear in its parent company’s, Verto Analytics, A+ rating on BBB (Better Business Bureau). This is not an easy rating for a market research company to attain.
Even though Smart Panel is legit and lets you earn extra money with minimal effort, the platform is far from perfect.
You have to admit that it’s a bit unsettling having some stranger monitoring what you do online and offline with your mobile devices. At least, Smart Panel tells you from the onset that that’s what they’ll be doing, which means you know exactly what you are signing up for when you download the app.
They also promise that your data is anonymously collected. I guess you can take some solace in that.
Then there’s the earlier mentioned issue of some members not getting paid. Further research shows that most of the individuals in this category had issues using the app, which is why they didn’t get their reward.
There are also complaints that Smart Panel’s customer support takes too long to respond to complaints. While no Smart Panel review will agree that this is great, it doesn’t mean that a site is a scam. It just means that the company doesn’t have very good customer care.
The Good and the Bad
Based on Smart Panel reviews, here are some noteworthy pros about the platform.
- You get to earn a fair amount of money for doing almost nothing.
- You can quit and uninstall the app whenever you want, but know that you won’t receive any reward for time already spent.
- You can take surveys and participate in product testing to earn more via the app.
- You get $5 simply for qualifying for the SmartPanel program.
- The bonus from the loyalty program is an effective motivator.
- You can view your data or transaction logs. This lets you know the exact data that’s been extracted from your phone.
- You can redeem your earnings quickly either through PayPal or as an Amazon gift card.
- You can install the app on multiple devices, and you’ll be paid for all of them.
- You can earn with the app even if you don’t live in the US.
The following cons are based on member complaints and our Smart Panel reviews:
- You don’t get to pick how you are paid for surveys. You are limited to receiving payment only through the means stated in the survey invite.
- Some users have had problems with cashing out. If the app stops working for any reason, you won’t earn anything that month.
- The failure of the app on one device will disrupt your earnings on other devices.
- Your online activities are continuously being monitored by strangers.
- Poor customer service.
- The app running in the background can slow down the overall performance of your device.
As you can see from our Smart Panel reviews, the app is legit, but you won’t be able to earn a lot from it. That said, it’s still a nice way to make extra money in exchange for doing mostly nothing.
As long as you don’t mind having unknown people monitoring everything you do with your mobile devices, you should consider installing the Smart Panel app.
On the other hand, if privacy is important to you or you want more paid surveys so you can earn more money, then maybe SmartPanel is not the money-making option for you, and you may want to try one of our fave survey sites instead.
